Motorway Service Areas are getting better, it’s official!  Following the annual visits from the VisitEngland independent assessment team, Star Ratings have been awarded.  Assessors report that the continual investment in infrastructure and staff training is improving service to customers visiting motorway service areas as they travel around England.

Top ratings went to Tebay South and Cherwell Valley who were awarded 5 Star ratings for exceptional delivery in all key areas.

This quality scheme, originally commissioned by the Highways Agency, has been carefully devised to cover areas that are of key importance to customers.  Consumer Research carried out in 2009, prior to the question set being devised, has enabled the scheme to reflect what matters most to customers visiting Motorway Service Areas.

All six operators, Moto; Welcome Break; Roadchef; Extra; Westmorland and EuroGarages have been visited three times by the assessors over the last 12 month period and each individual site has been provided with reports that cover 8 Key Sections – catering; cleanliness; food; forecourt; retail; service; site and toilets.  Five levels of quality ranging are awarded within these 8 sections and 250 aspects of each operation are assessed individually.
