Destination Management Resources

Tourism is much more than leisure visitors; more than overnights.  It encompasses increasingly important business visitors that can support, stimulate and enhance other economic sectors.  Whilst day visitors can also support other sectors grow, in particular culture, retail and sports.  Taking responsibility for developing this complex mix of visitors, the communities and environment in which it takes place and the businesses involved (either supporting tourism or being supported by it) is challenging.

This resource aims to support managers of tourism at a local level.  It acts as a portal to bring together existing resources.  The materials are drawn from a number of organisations that have developed resources that are of benefit to a Destination Manager.

Over time this resource will be further developed and enhanced to meet the changing needs of those responsible for tourism development.  Please forward any suggestions and comments to Jason Freezer.

This resource is a key outcome of the Destination Management Action Plan, part of the Strategic Framework for Tourism in England 2010-2020 (STFE).  It supports the action plan objective "To share best practice among strategic planners and practitioners to ensure high quality, integrated destination management strategies".
