Tourism body of last resort

Within the Policy VisitEngland is referred to as the “tourism body of last resort”.  This reflects the changing tourism landscape and the instruction within VE’s draft CSR settlement which states that “funding for the following top priority programmes is to be protected as far as possible:
VisitEngland’s investment in and support for destination management organisations and the local businesses, local authorities and enterprise partnerships involved in tourism.”

This equates to a figure of £5m per annum.  Activity relating to this has been identified in VE’s business plan as:

  • Lead a pan-England marketing strategy which employs the England brand effectively; ensures economies of scale and leverages England’s best assets.

  • Work with local providers and industry to assist local tourism in achieving its potential.

  • Encourage the achievement of best value across England’s tourism by facilitating partnerships between public service providers.

  • Provide insights and market intelligence which facilitate growth.
