Trend to holiday at home continues as 5.1 Million Brits plan a UK trip this August bank holiday

VisitEngland’s Bank Holiday Trip Tracker Survey reveals today that 5.1million Brits (10% of the adult population) are planning an overnight holiday trip in the UK this August Bank Holiday weekend, with 4 million people (8%) planning on taking an overnight trip in England. This is likely to generate some £1.2billion in tourism spend for the UK economy, £940 million of which will be spent in England.

Local marketing campaigns deliver jobs and growth boost for England

VisitEngland, the national tourist board, today reveals the latest results of the three-year project, ‘Growing Tourism Locally’, which in its second year has to date generated a total of £416 million additional tourism spend and created 7,744 additional jobs for the sector.

VisitEngland star ratings to appear on TripAdvisor as part of new partnership

In a new partnership with TripAdvisor, VisitEngland’s official star ratings will now be displayed on the TripAdvisor property pages of participating accommodation providers in England. VisitEngland now joins organisations such as the AA as providers of official star ratings for TripAdvisor.

New figures show domestic tourism boosted by strong Easter

Results of the Great British Tourism Survey (GBTS) released by VisitEngland today reveal 3.8 million domestic holiday trips were taken in England in April 2014, a 10% increase on the same period last year, with tourism spend up 5% for the month.

VisitEngland Chairman, Penelope, Viscountess Cobham CBE was in Somerset on Tuesday 8th July as part of a visit by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales. The purpose of the visit – a follow up to The Prince of Wales's visit to the Somerset Levels in February this year - was to meet with tourism businesses and local communities affected by the floods and to champion the tourism industry.

VisitEngland TV ad to promote cycling holidays in England

A VisitEngland cycling themed national marketing campaign, aimed to inspire Britons to take a cycling holiday in England this year, will be featured in a Television advertisement which will air on Channel 5 on 11 July.  It will highlight the wide range of cycling related tourism products and experiences on offer throughout the year and aims to build on the increased enthusiasm for the sport following the London 2012 Games and the arrival of the Grand Départ in Yorkshire this weekend.

3.4 Million Brits to take a UK break over Easter Weekend

3.4 million Brits (7% per cent of the adult population) plan to make the most of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend by taking at least one overnight holiday trip in the UK, with 3 million people (6% per cent) planning to take that trip in England, according to VisitEngland’s latest Trip Tracker survey.

English Tourism Week 2014 will officially launch today (27 March) at the annual Tourism Society dinner at the House of Commons, which will be attended by Tourism Minister Helen Grant MP. The launch will kick start a week long programme of events from 29 March – 6 April to celebrate tourism in England.
