VisitEngland wins British Travel Award for

4 November 2011.  VisitEngland is proud and delighted to announce that it has been named in the British Travel Awards 2011 as the winner of ‘Best Tourist Board Website’.  As the largest awards programme in the UK created to reward the best companies and organisations in travel, the BTAs are a benchmark for excellence in the industry, with over 700,000 votes cast by the public this year. VisitEngland was recognised for, which provides a wealth of information on destinations, attractions and accommodation across the country.

In what was a great evening for English tourism, with wins spanning the breadth of the industry, successes included Shearings Holidays for ‘UK/Domestic Holiday Company of the Year’ and attractions operator Merlin, which won a trio of ‘Best Theme Park’ awards for Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and Legoland Windsor.  Cornwall was named ‘Best UK Holiday County or Region and St. Ives won ‘Best Seaside Town’, marking a double win for VisitCornwall.  These stellar operations are all true ambassadors for the industry with senior representatives serving on the VisitEngland Board. 

VisitEngland’s Chairman, Lady Cobham, said:
“We are delighted to receive the British Tourism Award for  It is a key channel to inspire both domestic and inbound visitors to book a holiday in England, so this acknowledgment is particularly welcome as we prepare to capitalise on the great marketing opportunities offered by the wonderful events taking place in 2012.  I would also like to congratulate our Board members on their successes, and for their contribution to our industry.”
